Trans Awareness Week
It’s Trans Awareness Week, a time to raise up the trans community, offer education and advocate for trans rights and issues.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
November is Domestic Violence Awareness month in Canada and we know that women, girls and gender-diverse people are at the highest risk of gender-based violence.
Women’s History Month
This Women’s History month we want to honour and acknowledge our clinic’s origins and those who fought to improve abortion access in Canada. We also recognize that diverse folks across the gender spectrum have not always been recognized within reproductive justice activism despite being vital to the success of these movements throughout history.
International Safe Abortion Day
Nearly half of all pregnancies worldwide are unintended, and over 60 per cent of these may end in abortion. 45 percent of all abortions are unsafe. Progress partly depends on the resourcefulness and ingenuity of providers themselves.
Sexual Health Month
The World Health Organization states "Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.” To support our clients' sexual well-being during an abortion appointment, we must counteract the power differential between healthcare provider and client.
Pregnancy loss and self care
This upcoming weekend is International Self Care day and we want to talk about pregnancy loss, taking care of yourself after an abortion and the supports we provide at Choice in Health.
Ways to get involved right now
Whether you’re looking to support Choice in Health in a way that’s quick and fun, or more deep and ongoing, your creativity is welcome here. We are currently hiring board members – and inviting submissions to our #prochoicepets campaign! Apply to our board by July 21st.
Becoming trans-inclusive means change at the policy level.
Our healthcare facility exists because women's rights activists demanded safe access to abortion procedures, a right that we are still defending today. We appreciate the leaders who made our work possible, while honouring the many gender diverse individuals that their movement erased from history. We want to acknowledge that Choice in Health historically erased the identities of our own staff and board, and others who may have felt excluded from working here.
Happy Pride Month!
Choice in health Clinic is excited to celebrate pride and to re-affirm our commitment to queer positive, client centered abortion care, no matter who you are.

Yesterday mask mandates in many public settings across Ontario were lifted, and while this step towards a return to normal is welcome for many, healthcare settings are exempt and continue to require masking when onsite.

A note from our Executive Director
It’s with mixed feelings that I’m writing to share with you that after 2 years of service, I will be stepping down as Executive Director of the Choice in Health Clinic effective April 15, 2022.
There is no excuse for using the wrong pronouns and we apologize.
We wanted to share some feedback we recently received anonymously from one of our clients and share with you all our thoughts.

Reproductive Justice and Reproductive Rights, what’s the difference?
We are often asked: “We have the right to an abortion in Canada so what’s all this Reproductive Justice talk?” And that’s a great question. If you’ve asked yourself this, you are not alone.
Orange Shirt Day 2021
Today marks Orange Shirt Day, a day that started in 2013 when Phyllis Webstad shared her story of the orange shirt taken from her on her first day of residential school with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
