There is no excuse for using the wrong pronouns and we apologize.
Hello Choice in Health Community,
We wanted to share some feedback we recently received anonymously from one of our clients and share with you all our thoughts.
“My (staff) used she/her pronouns for me when I put they/them on my intake from and this made me feel less comfortable and doubt your commitment to giving care to trans clients.”
First off, we at CIHC want to thank this client for submitting this feedback. We take all feedback extremely seriously especially when the feedback is about how we fell short of our commitments.
Over the last few years we’ve taken significant steps to ensure that as a clinic we are able to confidently provide an inclusive space for trans clients to receive abortion care. And, we’ve made a point of promoting ourselves as a trans inclusive space but an incident like this undermines all of that work.
There is no excuse for using the wrong pronouns and we apologize.
At CIHC we aim to foster an environment of growth and learn from our mistakes as a team. That said, we take misgendering seriously and if it happens on a continuous basis we want to assure our clients that the organization will see this as a disciplinary issue and take the appropriate steps.
Having staff that are able to provide trans inclusive care remains a core priority to our clinic. We are committing to our community that as a team we are taking this opportunity to reflect and adjust our delivery of care.
Sincerely,
CIHC
