Your safety is important to us

This page explains what the "Leave this site" button does and how you can protect your privacy when browsing this website.

If you are in immediate danger, please call 911.

What the "Leave this site" button does

The red "Leave this site" button appears on every page of this website.

When you click it:

  1. The screen goes blank immediately

  2. The current page is replaced with Google (the back button will not return here)

  3. A second browser tab opens to The Weather Network

You can also activate it by pressing the Shift key 3 times quickly.

What the button does NOT do

  • It does not delete your browsing history

  • It does not clear cookies or saved form data from previous visits

  • It does not protect against monitoring software (spyware) installed on your device

  • It does not hide this site from your internet provider or network administrator

The button only protects against someone physically looking at your screen in the moment.

Using private browsing

Private browsing (also called Incognito or InPrivate mode) prevents your browser from saving your history, cookies, and form data for that session. We recommend using it when visiting this website.

Mac: ⌘ + Shift + N

Or: Menu (⋮) → New Incognito Window

If you did not use private browsing, you can delete your history after visiting this site.

Click "Clear browsing data," select a time range, check "Browsing history," and click "Clear data."

Safari

Go to History → Clear History.

Choose a time range and click "Clear History."

Firefox

Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Mac: ⌘ + Shift + Delete)

Select a time range, check "Browsing & Download History," and click "Clear Now."

Microsoft Edge

Ctrl + Shift + Delete

On your phone

iPhone (Safari)

Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data.

Android (Chrome)

Menu (⋮) → History → Clear browsing data.

A note about missing history

Be aware that a completely empty browsing history can itself look suspicious to someone who monitors your device. You may want to delete only specific entries rather than clearing everything, or visit a few ordinary websites afterward so your history does not appear blank.

Consider using a safer device

If you are concerned that someone may be monitoring your phone or computer, consider accessing this website from:

  • A computer at your local public library

  • A friend's phone or computer

  • A device at work (if that feels safe)

  • Any device that the person you are concerned about cannot access
