#215children
Like so many Canadians, we at CIHC watched in outrage at the news of a discovery of a mass children's grave at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School on the Tk'emlups te Secwépemc First Nation. There are no words we can utter that could capture the horror of this news. This national tragedy must not be forgotten and is a reminder of why CIHC is committed to working towards providing culturally competent care for our clients as identified in the Calls to Action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. We acknowledge that the history of abortion includes forced abortions of Indigenous youth at residential schools. We understand that only by facing this history can we make meaningful progress towards reconciliation.
In solidarity,
CIHC
