What a year!

We are so grateful for the outpouring of passionate support and generosity from our community in 2022. While it has been a challenging year to be an abortion provider in the face of unprecedented attacks on reproductive rights, we have found a reliable source of strength in your messages and contributions.

The overwhelming response to our recent Call to Action tells us just how many folks are championing our cause. We have the privilege of receiving constant reminders from clients of how much our work means to them – and sensing our connection to a wider community amplifies the experience.

We cherish our role as a bridge between defenders of reproductive health care, and the individuals we serve. Through our Access Fund, donors directly support clients facing barriers to care. Thanks to you, we can alleviate expenses such as childcare, transportation, and filling birth control prescriptions; and provide surgical care at no cost to individuals who do not have OHIP coverage.

While CIHC can designate funds as needed to suit each individual, we want to highlight a few costs that are consistent and show that no donation is too small to make an impact.

$11 to $12 allows a client to start with a 1 month supply of the birth control pill or patch.

$36 covers a client's first Depo Provera injection, a 3-month dosage.

$47 pays for a copper IUD, the long-acting birth control option for clients that do not want to use hormonal contraception.

$114 is what CIHC pays for surgical care for a non-insured client, with remaining funding coming from a partner organization.

And finally, major donations relieve a client’s concerns about their birth control supply for 3-5 years, funding the Nexplanon implant at $311 and Kyleena and Mirena hormonal IUDs for $390 and $394.

Consider including Choice in Health Clinic in your year-end giving, and donate in honour of someone on your holiday list. By collecting donations through CanadaHelps.org, we can ensure your anonymity if you choose, and never learn your name. All Charitable receipts and thank you notes will be from CanadaHelps.org, not CIHC.

If you are not in a position to donate, there’s still a way to support our work right now. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is accepting YOUR feedback on regulations that could limit safe abortion access in community clinics. Visit choiceinhealth.ca/action by Jan. 1, and share widely.

Thank you for everything in 2022 and see you next year!
